Next Education believes in and practices proper recycling of E-waste and encourages our partners to do the same. E-waste is a term for unwanted, non-working or obsolete electronic products that have essentially reached the end of their useful life. As per E-waste (Management) Rules 2016, E-waste is defined as electrical and electronic equipment waste, discarded by the consumers, refurbished and rejected by manufacturing industries wholly or partially. There are many benefits of properly disposing of E-waste and protecting our environment to achieve sustainability for future generations.
E-waste contains many valuable materials, such as aluminium, copper, gold, silver, and ferrous metals, which can be recovered through extraction. In order to preserve natural resources and energy, electronic equipment can be refurbished, reused, or recycled. This will help protect the soil and water by leaching harmful and toxic substances such as lead, mercury, chromium, beryllium, cadmium and chemical flame retardants.
The fact that India generates more than two million tonnes of E-waste annually is actually alarming. More than 95% of E-waste in India is processed by a widely distributed network of under-trained and less skillful workers and waste pickers who collect, dismantle and recycle it. Most of the time, they operate illegally outside any regulated or formal organisational system. The non-official workers deploy crude methods for extracting reusable components and precious metals like gold, silver, titanium, palladium, copper and tin from the E-wastes. This two-step process involves acid burning and open incineration, creating toxic gases with severe health and environmental consequences.
This programme is to create awareness among participants for proper E-waste cycling by approved recyclers. To meet this requirement, the Government of India has made it obligatory in the E-Waste Rules 2016 to recycle E-wastes only through authorised recyclers. Authorised recyclers ensure that:
As a responsible social organisation, Next Education has tied up with E-waste Recyclers India for the collection of all our e-waste across India. Customers can contact us on Toll-Free No 1800-200-5566. Our representatives will explain to them the process of disposal and educate them about following proper disposal methods and reaching the nearest drop point for dumping the waste in a responsible manner. They will also give information about incentives that we offer to them for their end-of-life product.
